The Cypher
What is a cypher to someone who has lived in a giant basement their whole life?
My mum has shouted the exact same question to me from the kitchen door.
Deep under the 144 levels of the giant underground silo lies one of the last libraries of humanity.
Inside its golden texts lies the secret to decoding a message that reveals the silo’s connections to the outside world but it’s answers are hidden behind code and cryptic calculations.
Writing in Code
To absolutely no-one’s surprise, I absolutely love codes and puzzles so this was a joy to put together.
Looking back over the historical origin of each cypher, each archive explains both the mechanical functioning of the how the code works but also it’s nuances in application and development.
It was important to make sure the pieces for homogeneous in explanation, to further aid the story beat of the protagonist having to piece together non-direct information in order to find what the exact information they needed to uncover the Silo’s deeper buried secrets.
